Weps
The Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) are a set of principles that provide guidance to the business world on how to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment in the workplace, the marketplace, and the community. Established by UN Women and the United Nations Global Compact, the WEPs are informed by international labor and human rights standards and are based on the recognition that businesses have a role and responsibility in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The WEPs aim to support sustainable development by enabling businesses to improve their commitments and performance on gender equality and women’s empowerment. These principles help businesses fulfill their social responsibilities and create positive change in society.
Core Principles of the WEPs
1- Providing high-level corporate leadership for gender equality
2- Treating all women and men fairly at work, respecting and supporting human rights and the principle of non-discrimination
3- Ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all women and men workers
4- Promoting education, training, and professional development opportunities for women
5- Implementing enterprise development, supply chain, and marketing practices that empower women
6- Promoting equality through community initiatives and advocacy
